Melissa Enters the MTC

Okay, so I know I haven't posted in forever! These past couple weeks have been really busy! Jeff and I went to California a few weeks ago for my sister Melissa's missionary farewell. We had a great time and we were able to see everyone, with the exception of my brother-in-law Dave. I was then able to stay a few extra days with Halle so that we could take advantage of some extra time with Melissa.
On Tuesday my parents and Melissa flew out and on Wednesday she entered the MTC. Halle and I were able to go which I was happy about, but I was also dreading it. Melissa and I are only 15 months apart and have always been really close. I knew it would be really hard to say goodbye, especially at the MTC but I knew that if I didn't go I would regret it. We took pictures and then went to the meeting that they have for all of the new missionaries and their families. The MTC President and his wife spoke, along with a counselor from the MTC presidency. We sang, Called to Serve (which I did not get through) and then watched a movie about missionary work. It was then time to say goodbye. Melissa hugged my parents and then Halle and me. She put on her backpack and then hugged all of us again and headed to where the missionaries exit. Before she left she turned around and said, "See you in 18 months!" and then she was gone. It is still hard to believe that she is really gone and that I won't see her for a year and a half, but I know that she will have an amazing experience that will truly change her life.

Melissa and I after she got her name tag. Not the best picture of us, but it was the only one that I got of the two of us.
Melissa right after she got her name tag and her welcome packet.

This is the lady giving Melissa her name tag and instructing her to clip it on the highest part of her clothing. Apparently, they don't want anyone's eyes drawn to places that they shouldn't be looking. Melissa jokingly informed the lady that she wouldn't have that problem. Not even cracking a smile the lady informed her that that didn't matter and to please where it on the highest part of her clothing. Haha.

My parents with Sister Melissa Engstrom. What a great picture!

Of course I had to include this one. Lookin' good Liss!

Kathers thanks for posting those pictures. It's cool to see Liss in the MTC with her tags and all. It would have been cool to be there, but I was there for her setting apart, I guess that's good enough. I heard Hal did really good. I also heard that she is awesome at walking now. I could tell she was so close last time I saw her. Did she have a fun Halloween?

It's always so hard to say goodbye. I was getting a little teary eyed reading this, picturing you trying to be brave. She's going to be a great missionary. great pictures.
